For students and families outside of Canada, here’s a summary of Ontario’s “Growing Success” policy, which guides how students in Ontario are assessed, evaluated, and supported on their journey toward earning the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Ontario Secondary School Diploma
In Ontario’s secondary school assessment system under the “Growing Success” policy, final grades in each course are divided into two main components:

Term Work (70%):

This portion of the grade is based on assessments conducted throughout the course, which may include assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, and class participation. The aim is to reflect the student’s consistent effort and understanding of the course material across the term.

Final Evaluation (30%):

This part is typically an exam, culminating project, or major assignment completed at the end of the course. It provides a final assessment of the student’s achievement and understanding of the course content.

Learning Skills and Work Habits, such as responsibility and organization, are evaluated separately and do not contribute to the academic grade but are reported to provide a fuller picture of the student’s performance and development.
